CIRI National organized and sponsored another edition of Bernard Simon’s extremely popular Write it Right workshop, tailored specifically to professionals in the financial and securities industries. The January event was relatively well attended and, yet again, earned high ratings from the participants in terms of quality, content and speaker.
Our February session, “On the Road Again”, was sponsored by Ipreo and presented by David Carey of ARC Resources and Jason Fleury of Penn West Energy Trust. Both are veterans of many roadshow campaigns over the years and they entertained a large audience with anecdotes, tips, suggestions and comments about things to do before, during and after a roadshow. Our vendor showcase in March was directed at small cap companies and those seeking greater visibility. We invited vendors with a range of services designed to help their clients `get on the radar’. Thanks are due to Q4 Networks, Meet the Street and The Howard Group for their sponsorship. Our April IR Career Strategy luncheon was a free event, limited to members only. Jason Fleury of Penn West provided insight with regard to career development in investor relations. On May 3, we are organizing “M&A, Hostile and Friendly” with speakers Richard Downey from Agrium and Paul Charron of CanEra Resources. Both are veterans of the M&A world and will share lessons learned. CIRI Alberta members can register online to attend in person, but the event will also be webcast and available to anyone registering through the CIRI website. Through CIRI Alberta, Lawrence G. McDonald, ex-Lehman Brothers VP and international best-selling author of “A Colossal Failure of Common Sense” will be speaking on June 3, 2010 at the Telus Convention Centre about the calamitous downfall of Lehman Brothers, the biggest bankruptcy in U.S. history and the tipping point that pushed the world into financial crisis. CIRI members are entitled to a 20% discount. For more details and to register for this event, go to http://colossalcalgary.com. We anticipate scheduling our AGM at the end of May or beginning of June. Please check the CIRI website for more information. We have just started planning for the CIRI Alberta gala on September 23 and we are seeking volunteers to help organize the event. If you are interested in learning more about what you can do to help, please contact Patty Lew-Lapointe or Odette Ries-Bustin, who are this year’s co-chairs. |
