CIRI British Columbia Chair's Message
It is an honor to work for BC CIRI members and also to work alongside a very skilled group of individuals who make up your Executive: Dave Salmon – Laurell Hill Advisory Group, Lynette Gould – Goldcorp Inc., Arne Gulstene – TSX, Kettina Cordero – Pan American Silver, Jamie Kokoska – Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc., Sandra Daycock – Methanex, Erin O’Toole – Novagold Resources Inc. and Monica Hamm – Entrée Gold Inc.
The BC membership continues to be very active in all aspects of our professional organization. Meghan Brown remains Chair on the National Board, George Kesteven was recently honored with the Award for Excellence in Investor Relations and Monica Hamm was selected as this year’s recipient of the Belle Mulligan Scholarship for the CIRI/Ivey Investor Relations Certification Program. I believe these acknowledgements are indicative of the strength and skill of our members.
With current economic conditions and cutbacks in the commodities sector, some of our members are going through challenging times. Membership however, has remained quite strong due to our continuing effort of industry diversification and member retention as a result of the value within your membership.
Our commitment for the 2015/2016 programming season continues to focus on value creation for our members by addressing topics that are both timely and relevant. These topics will include but are not limited to:
- The State of the Current IR Job Market
- Maximizing your Networking Skills
- Mentorship Breakfast with George Kesteven
- Board Issues – Challenges, Changes and Insights
- State of the Economy
- Crisis Management
I would encourage all members to take advantage of the other resources including CIRI publications, job postings, the IR eLibrary and the CPIR program which has a new start date of January 2016. These resources are for you and they contain a tremendous amount of information which will benefit all who utilize them.
As we move through the summer into fall, I encourage you to stay in touch with your CIRI Executive. Your feedback and continual dialogue, enable us to provide stronger professional development opportunities and ultimately a better, more visible and more highly regarded professional association.
I look forward to seeing you all in the fall.
Chair, CIRI BC
