CIRI British Columbia Chair's Message
It is an honor to represent our members as the new Chair of the CIRI BC Chapter, and to work alongside a highly qualified group of individuals who make up your CIRI BC Executive. For those of you who don’t know me, I am the Director, Investor Relations for Methanex Corporation. I have been a CIRI member since 2013 and on the CIRI BC Executive since 2014. During that time I have truly enjoyed the strong relationships I have formed within the CIRI organization. This network has proven to be the number one source of value for me as a CIRI member, and I hope you will all reach out to your fellow members at both Chapter and National events to exchange knowledge, ideas and best practices.
I would like to thank the outgoing Chair of CIRI BC, Lisa May. Lisa demonstrated strong and thoughtful leadership in her tenure as Chair, and continues to contribute considerable hours of hard work and dedication to the BC Chapter. I look forward to working closely with Lisa to ensure a smooth transition so that we may continue to make CIRI BC a strong and valuable center of the BC Investor Relations community.
For the 2016/2017 season we are planning events that we hope you will find are not only relevant and valuable, but also fun and enjoyable. Our first event will be our second annual “CIRI Talks” as well as our kickoff networking social, to be held on September 29, 2016. We have solicited our membership to share an experience, story or an issue that relates to the IR profession. We love this event because it promotes sharing of best practices and ideas, which is what CIRI is all about, and I look forward to seeing many of you there – details will follow. Other events and/or topics for this season will include (but not be limited to):
- a financial modeling event hosted by CIRI National in Vancouver
- a mentorship breakfast
- a high value speaker panel of C-Suite and/or Street participants
- a seminar on understanding the benefits of Social Media for IR, and
- a presentation skills development workshop.
Our schedule is not yet final and I encourage you to stay in touch with your CIRI Executive, as we value your input on the types of events and topics you would like to see on our agenda. Your feedback and continual dialogue enable us to continue to enhance the stature, reputation and success of our professional association.
Our main goal as an Executive is to bring value to our CIRI BC membership through a wide variety of benefits. These include timely and relevant professional development events, networking opportunities, mentorship and coaching opportunities, and much more. I also encourage all of our BC members to take advantage of CIRI’s broad range of national offerings including relevant IR publications, webinars, job postings, and IRO round tables, and of course our annual 3-day conference which is always a highlight of the year. Those seeking more formal training may consider the 2-day Essentials of Investor Relations Seminar or the 10-month Certified Professional Investor Relations (“CPIR”) program, which are both fantastic programs.
Our CIRI BC members continue to be very active in the Investor Relations Community and in all aspects of our professional organization. Greg Waller was selected as this year’s recipient of the Belle Mulligan Award for Leadership. Monica Hamm begins her scholarship program this falI for the CPIR program. We also have three new members of the CIRI BC Executive, Rory Quinn, Lori Rozali, and Allison Pettit who have already begun to make strong contributions to our Chapter planning and events. I am sure these are just a few examples of the many accomplishments of our membership, and we hope you will let us know when you achieve a degree, professional designation, obtain a promotion, or land a new job by emailing us at BCSocial@ciri.org. We would love to share these achievements with your CIRI BC peers through Twitter and LinkedIn.
I would like to thank our outgoing Executive members, David Salmon, Lynette Gould and Jamie Kokoska. The CIRI BC Chapter would not be where it is today without the hard work and dedication of our volunteer Executive. Lastly, I would like to thank you, our members, for your continued interest and support in driving this profession forward.
I look forward to seeing you all in the fall.
Chair, CIRI BC
